Device Control For SmartPhones Frequently Asked Questions

What is Device Control?

Device Control provides a simple method to adjust the settings and configuration of all Kyocera smartphones, with Android 10 and higher, by accessing the embedded Mobile Device Management (MDM) Application Programming Interface provided in the Kyocera software.

What is a Device Control Policy?

A Policy is a group of settings (restrictions and features) which create a specific device configuration. A device can hold up to 30 distinct Policies, however only a single Policy may be active at any given time. Each Policy can be given a descriptive name and can be saved, edited, reviewed, renamed, or deleted by the account administrator.

What is a Management Device?

A Management Device is used by the account administrator to create configuration Policies. These Policies can be transferred to Distribution Devices via QR Code scanning or NFC bumping.

What is a Distribution Device?

A Distribution Device can be loaded with a specific Device Control Policy and is distributed to an end user.

Can the Device Control Policy on a Distribution Device be managed remotely?

No. Device Control is a device-based solution that does not utilize network or cloud-based controls.

Why does a Distribution Device need to be factory reset to install Device Control?

Device Control uses some of Android Enterprise features which is a device management solution provided by Google. To use the Android Enterprise function, it is necessary to initialize the device at setup.

If I choose to set up my own Distribution Devices, how long does it take to configure each device?

Configuration time may vary depending on configuration. Once the Management device is configured, it takes about 10-15 minutes to prepare each Distribution Device. This includes device initialization, the transfer of a Policy from a Management Device, and the activation of the Policy on the Distribution Device. If your configuration includes other apps to be installed, it will take additional time.

Am I required to use an email ID (as username) for Device Control login? Is it required to be a Gmail address?

Yes. An admin user account email and password must be registered with Kyocera. This is your admin account and will be used by the Management Device account administrator to access the Device Control application on all Management and Distribution devices. This is not required to be a Gmail address, any valid email address is acceptable.

How many email accounts do I need for setup?

A single registered admin account is used to access the Device Control application on any number of devices.

Do I need Google account for Device Control?

No. You can use a Google account as the admin, but it is not required. Google account is needed if you want to allow your Devices to download applications from GooglePlay.

How many devices can be configured with a single Device Control account?

There is no limitation.

What does Device Control transfer from my Management Device to my Distribution Devices?

It transfers the Device Control app and the policies. It does not copy the Management Device's applications, setting, images, contacts, etc.

Do I need Wi-Fi to create and transfer policies?

Yes. To complete the setup of Distribution Devices, a Wi-Fi connection to the internet is required. Wi-Fi must be a direct connection without being redirected to a log-in portal (captive portal).
